Part 4: Set up Registers

Information

Registers specify the data that will be recorded by the eGauge for future review. Here, you'll configure what the installed sensors will detect and record for later use. The information you'll need for this section can be found on the Installation worksheet that was filled out during the Installation of the eGauge.

Step 1: Delete the sample configuration registers by clicking the X next to the name field.

Step 2: Click Add Register to create a new register and type a unique register name in the Name field.

Step 3: Choose the Register Type from the first dropdown. The default register type is P which will record a real-power reading. See the section below for additional register types.

OptionFunctionAdd
PCalculate Power (Watts)
Current * Voltage
LRecord Voltage from AC or DC inputsL-N Volts, L-L Volts, or Ldc
SRecord sensor reading

Step 4: Click Add Component on a Power register to add a place to add a Current and Voltage pair to calculate Watts. A single-pole load will have one Current and one Voltage pair, a two-pole will have two and a three-pole will need three Current and Voltage pairs as shown in the example below:

Repeat these steps to add registers for all of your monitored loads ensuring that Sensors and Voltage pairs are from the same phase. Phase mismatch between Current and Voltage will result in incorrect Watt calculation.

Defining Totals and Virtual Registers

Usage and Generation define the pink and green shaded areas on the default Chart view. These may be left undefined in some installation types such as with tenant submetering where totaling may not be relevant.

Click the Add Register button on a Virtual Register to add a register selection dropdown.

Select the Register you'd like to add to the Total from the list. Use the +/- dropdown before each register to adjust polarity if needed. For guidance on setting up Usage and Generation Virtual registers for your particular installation, refer to the relevant installation example. The example below shows the Registers and Virtual Registers section for a backfed residential Solar installation.

Additional virtual registers may be added for simple totaling of readings in the Registers section such as in the example below:

Step 5: Click the Save button at the bottom of the page to save your changes. Clicking Reset will revert the settings to the last saved configuration.

When you save configuration changes you'll be prompted: Would you like to start out fresh and discard all data up to this point?

Click OK to discard previously recorded data up to the point where you click Save. Choose Cancel to save your changes without affecting previously recorded data.

If the eGauge prompts you to reboot the meter after making a configuration change, click OK
